New Dandy Candy design for the bodycon dress
The goal with this Dandy Candy design was to create something that took a ‘swirly whirly’ form and populate it with a bunch of simple blobby forms. These forms were one of a few types however they would all intermingle and sit on different layers. And we would have the original ‘swirly whirly’ element peek out here and there.
We started in Adobe Illustrator and created the guiding ‘swirly whirly’ forms uniquely for the front and back (the bodycon dress is made from two pieces of fabric). Once that is done we wave a magic digital wand and create thousands of blobby forms. And then we get to the trickiest bit. We spend many hours using the Printful mockup tool and making adjustments to both the ‘swirly whirly’ elements and the blobby forms. We need the ‘flow’ to work and look good from every angle.
Then came the coloring process. We randomly colored every one of those shapes with one of our 27 wild peach colors.
The final process was to bring it all together with a subtle three-dimensional effect to various elements. Underneath everything sits our base color layer. In the example shown here this is the peach version.
The Dandy Candy design was created for the bodycon dress and this was a days work. Overall we are very happy with it. To actually get the product to market is so much more work though. We have 14 of our base colors that really work well and will add these in the near future.
